The demand for more flexible working practises contrasts sharply with the UK government’s push to revitalise city offices, that support the passing trade for the service industry. According to an Office of National Statistics (ONS) poll, 78% of employees who split their time between the office and home had better work-life balance and 52% completed tasks faster due to fewer interruptions at home.
However, access to casually conveyed information that could offer a chance to be associated with a new project, career or promotional opportunities at the coffee machine are non-existent when working from home. How do hybrid workers maintain their visibility while working remotely?
As a result, the five methods listed below can help you stay connected and visible while working from home.
1. Strategy for Increased Visibility
Develop a visibility strategy to be more visible; this will help you to be a visible member of a team and not fade into the background. Employees can stay visible by offering innovative ideas, assisting others with their job, and volunteering for a task or opportunity. Include these strategies in addition to the attached, as part of your visibility strategy for an effective way to sustain visibility.
2. Team Mindset
Consider the big picture and view yourself as part of a team rather than thinking of yourself as a remote worker, an individual. “In the past, you were literally visible,” says Kevin Eikenberry, cofounder of Remote Leadership Institute and co-author of The Long-Distance Teammate: Stay Engaged and Connected While Working.” Now you must be much more deliberate, but you must do so ethically.” Furthermore, even as a distant teammate, you are a member of something bigger than yourself, the team, the department and the organisation. Our goal is to ensure that your work is acknowledged in light of the team’s efforts and outcomes.
3. Simple to work with
Employees who are accommodating to scheduling changes and managerial preferences are valued by their managers. Because you are not in close vicinity to your manager, any inquiries or ideas that pops into their mind while they are in the flow will not receive a quick reaction. Discover new approaches to improve communication channels. Find novel approaches to making communication channels easier. For instance, what forms of communication they prefer: phone calls, teams, or zoom? Do they prefer texts or emails, how and when do they wish to communicate with you, evening and weekends? And what is their expected response time from you?
4. Personal Relationships
As was already noted, workplaces offer plenty of opportunities for workers to interact with one another. Building genuine connections between people that bond them to all aspects of each other’s lives, from favourite books and vacation hotspots to sports teams. Colleagues who are personally connected are therefore more likely to resolve disputes and negotiations amicably. Personal connections foster ties, which in turn foster trust. Discover creative approaches to building online relationships, such as a simple invitation to a zoom coffee break or co-learning a new skill. Furthermore, social ties can have a significant impact on your professional reputation and capacity to accomplish your job successfully.
5. Absolute dependability
This could include reassuring your manager that you’re meeting or exceeding deadlines. If you’re submitting a project, do it a few days ahead of time with an email that demonstrates you’re thinking about your manager’s time constraints, craft an email stating the following “I thought you’d like time to look over this before the deadline.” This will highlight your capacity to deliver under pressure and using a brief phrase like “as promised” sparingly, is usually always successful in reaffirming that you’ve kept your promises.
In conclusion, staying visible while working remotely requires a deliberate and strategic approach. Adopting a team mindset, building personal relationships and demonstrating exceptional dependability are all effective ways to stay visible and connect with your colleagues and managers. Remember when you are doing the right things for your team, you will be noticed and recognised anyway.
