Jenny Garrett OBE has joined the Board of Trustees at UP Projects! This is an exciting development, as Garrett has been a long-time advocate for using art to inspire, challenge, and connect people.

Garrett’s journey with art began in her student days, where she spent countless hours in galleries, immersing herself in the works of various artists. Over time, she has witnessed how art can spark conversations, challenge perspectives, and ultimately drive positive change. She firmly believes in the potential of art to make a significant positive impact on the world.

UP Projects shares this belief and is dedicated to making art accessible to everyone. The organization actively collaborates with artists to create thought-provoking projects that engage communities and address critical issues. These projects often take place in public spaces, bringing art directly to the people and fostering a sense of inclusivity.

One notable example is “Bodies of Water” by Anne Duk Hee Jordan, a project that tackles the pressing issue of water management in the face of the climate crisis. By working directly with communities in Wigan and Exeter, this project encourages local solutions and demonstrates how art can be a catalyst for environmental action and community building.

Another standout project is the “National Windrush Monument” by Basil Watson, a powerful tribute to the Windrush generation and their invaluable contribution to British society. This monument, and the wider program it is part of, is crucial for ensuring that public spaces truly reflect the diversity of our communities and foster a sense of belonging and recognition for all.
