According to The Colour of Power 2020 research, just 52 out of the 1099 most powerful roles in the UK are filled by non-white individuals, or 4.7% of the total number compared to the 13% proportion of the UK population. The number will have marginally increased over the last couple of years, but still do not reflect the wider population. There is still a significant underrepresentation of staff from ethnically diverse backgrounds at senior levels in many organisations.
Research from McKinsey shows that organisations with gender and ethnic diversity at the top perform 35% better in terms of the bottom line and those that don’t lag behind their competition.
